Q&A with CloudPOST’s Contributing Editor, Kathy Xu

grant-kirkwood-cto-and-founder-unitas-globalGrant Kirkwood, CTO and Founder of Unitas Global, will be attending HostingCon April 3-6 in Los Angeles and recently spoke with CloudPOST about his role in two of the event’s educational sessions. In this Q&A we also explore what differentiates Unitas, how the cloud industry is evolving and how Unitas will extend its market reach.

CloudPOST, Kathy Xu (CP-KX) Question: Tell our readers about your company. What do you do and what problems are you attempting to solve?

Unitas Global, Grant Kirkwood (Unitas-GK) Answer: Unitas Global utilizes leading cloud technologies to optimize enterprise IT environments. By designing, deploying, and managing infrastructure globally, Unitas allows clients to focus on their core business. Unitas’ infrastructure solutions are technology-agnostic, carrier-neutral, and globally deployed in every market, allowing Unitas the flexibility to architect specifically to meet client requirements. Unitas’ suite of services includes enterprise private and hybrid cloud, security solutions, disaster recovery (DR), IT outsourcing, OpenStack, and cloud management and monitoring.

CP-KX Q: What has your company achieved that makes it unique in the industry?

Unitas-GK A: Unitas Global has combined data center, network, compute, storage, security, software, operations and management capabilities into a single, secure, end-to-end private cloud environment, and delivers it as a managed service. Unitas Global also recognizes that cloud is only one tool of many required to enable digital transformation and provide a home for new transformative applications. While other cloud services providers have placed the cloud at the center of attention, Unitas Global offers our Multi-Cloud Orchestration System enabling on-demand, customizable options for enterprises leveraging hybrid cloud solutions. This cloud enablement process decreases time-to-market and provides management capabilities to handle business-critical workloads and multiple application requirements.

CP-KX Q: How do you see the cloud industry evolving? What do you think is the greatest challenge in the cloud industry?

Unitas-GK A: Enterprises are evaluating and adopting agile development processes for their in-house applications. The rise of the DevOps model, coupled with continual integration and deployment, means that core business applications can be improved, enhanced and adapted more quickly and continuously.

In 2017, there will also be increased use of container technology. Containers can be used to integrate multiple clouds, create application portability, and deploy new services quickly and easily. Although in the early adoption phase, interest is growing; in the next year, we can anticipate that containers will prove useful for solving software delivery issues.

The biggest challenge with cloud migration is the complexity of implementing new business processes when adopting cloud technology. Without a clear adoption strategy that spans all departments, companies may not be spending time, money or resources wisely, resulting in a cloud solution that is not well-suited to their needs.

CP-KX Q: How are you looking to strategically guide your business within the next few years?

Unitas-GK A: Unitas Global is working through strategic technology partnerships to deliver the cloud solutions needed by enterprise customers globally. We will continue to reinforce our channel presence and extend market reach, as well as continuously train our operations team to stay up-to-date with the leading cloud technologies. As a technology-agnostic solutions provider and trusted advisor, we’re able to integrate hardware, data center locations, carriers and public cloud providers into solutions that meet our customers’ business, budget, and IT needs.

CP-KX Q: What would you like to accomplish at HostingCon?

Unitas-GK A: I am looking forward to speaking and answering questions at HostingCon. My session, “The Challenges and Opportunities of Leveraging OpenStack” on Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at 1:30 p.m., is designed for the enterprise IT leader evaluating the merits of OpenStack and considering implementing this transformational technology within their organization. On Tuesday, April 4 at 1:30 p.m., I am joining executives from ZeroStack, Cavemen Consulting, Ecwid, Inc., and Infomart Data Centers for a “Strategy & Innovation” speed roundtable covering best practices for helping a company to succeed in a competitive marketplace. I’m looking forward to the chance to meet and speak with the other conference attendees as well.

CP-KX: Thank you for your time and best of luck at HostingCon.
